Honey Bee Information

A beehive is the bee’s home. It is made out of wax.

Bees collect fibers, ingest the fibers, than spit the fibers out. This is how they collect resources for the beehive. Bees then form the structure of the beehive with their feet.

Bees form hexagonal cells in the beehive to burrow their bee babies inside. The queen bee is the most important bee of them all. The queen bee makes the baby bees.

Like most pests, bees live in a chain of command.

The worker honeybee is what you can imagine, a worker. This honeybee forages for food and resources for the beehive. The worker bee is responsible for providing the beehive with nectar. The worker honeybee also provides the fibers that are used to form the beehive.

Drone honeybees are workers, as well. The drone honeybee is expected to build the beehive, organize beehive cells and place bee babies inside the bee hive cells. This honeybee is expected to keep the beehive organized and functioning for the worker honeybee and queen honeybee.

The queen bee creates the baby bees.

Remember, the African honeybee and honeybee are two different species. A honeybee beehive is only there to produce honey and keep the queen bee safe. The African honeybee beehive is also there to produce honey and keep the queen bee safe, however, the African honeybee is much more aggressive and territorial than the honeybee.

Why is this? Because, the African honeybee is a hybrid specie of the honeybee. For more information on African honeybees and honeybees go to our bee control information page.
